IRA Donations and Estate Gifts

Just a friendly message for your consideration…

If you own an IRA and are at least 70½ years old, you have a significant opportunity to avoid paying taxes on your IRA and make a charitable donation to Virginia Mennonite Missions. A law passed by the U.S. Congress has a provision through 2016 that allows you to donate to charity from a regular or Roth IRA without paying taxes on the earnings.

How to make a gift to VMMissions:

  • Contact your IRA custodian and request that a gift be sent to VMMissions. Many custodians have a form that needs to be filled out and signed by you to process your gift.
  • Please allow for up to several weeks for your IRA custodian to process your request.
  • Inform VMMissions so that we can give you an official letter of acknowledgment.

If you have questions or need more information, please contact Steve Leaman, Director of Public Relations, at steve.leaman@vmmissions.org or by phone at (540) 434-9727.
