Doorway into Mission is a way in which Virginia Mennonite Missions can facilitate the sending of Virginia Mennonite Conference (VMC) members through Mennonite Mission Network (http://mennonitemission NULL.net) and Eastern Mennonite Missions (http://emm NULL.org) into mission service in regions of the world beyond VMMission’s primary ministry locations.
Many VMC members serve with mission agencies other than VMMissions. Most common are our sister organizations of Mennonite Mission Network (Network) and Eastern Mennonite Mission (EMM). Many of the EMM and Network workers desire a strong and effective ongoing relationship into their home conference and churches.
Also, in the new day of relational funding, significant funding for such VMC-based workers often comes from VMC churches and individuals. Sometimes Network and EMM are able to create effective financial access to VMC funds and other times it is less effective. In some cases, it actually becomes frustrating or confusing to congregations who deal with multiple Mennonite “faces” to mission. There can be a disconnect between the sending base of workers and the assignments in which they are engaged.
Mission workers who access the doorway into mission will be VMC member mission candidates who are available to serve one year or longer in areas of the world in which EMM or Network provides the most adequate field administration. VMMissions will serve as their sending agency. A Memo of Understanding (MOU) will describe the agreement by which such workers serve under the field administrative arrangements of either EMM or Network.
VMMissions will continue to both send and administrate workers in our primary areas of ministry and potentially others where neither EMM nor Network is significantly involved.
