Teams Putt Around in Support of Missions

Putt Fore Missions 2022 was a great way to connect with those who support the vision of VMMissions to strive toward a Spirit-led church of many cultures.

It was a hot evening on the greens at Mulligan’s Golf Center in Harrisonburg. Fueled by a delicious meal catered by Harvest Table Catering, and cooled by Scotty’s Italian Ice, twenty teams of four enjoyed a friendly competition in pursuit of the “green jacket t-shirts” awarded to our top golfers in four age categories. More about that later.

The evening was about more than just a fun night of golf, trying to keep our scores as low as possible. President Aaron Kauffman shared about the ways in which VMMissions is also working at lowering the number of people in the world that have yet to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Currently that number is assumed to be around three billion of our global neighbors! VMMissions continues work in partnership with God’s Spirit and the global Christian church to lower that huge number by sharing new life in Christ with neighbors near and far.

Ken Wettig, a VMMissions worker, also shared how his vision for a servant leadership program, “SLAQ” is focusing on raising up Christian leaders among high school aged youth in the Harrisonburg area through discipleship cohorts. Those cohorts include: outdoor excursions, service projects and “Crucial Conversations” on challenging cultural issues facing our youth. The goal of each of these conversations “is to bridge the gap between cultural information and biblical wisdom through intergenerational conversation” (From the SLAQ website).

After sharing our meal together and connecting with people from ten different congregations representing various denomination groups, the golfing began.
